TOM LINLEY

SECRETARY

Tom Linley grew up in Michigan spending time camping with his scout troop and his family.  These childhood experiences gave him a love for the outdoors and enjoying state parks.  As a high schooler Tom’s family relocated to Florida where Tom later attended Florida International University earning a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation.  He then started a thirty-five year career serving the State of Florida that included twenty-six years with the Florida Park Service and nine years with the Governor’s Commission on Community Service also known as Volunteer Florida.

He started his Florida Park Service career as a park ranger at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park (now renamed Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park.) He moved quickly from ranger to manager which included serving fourteen years as the park manager at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.  While at Homosassa Springs he was a founding member of the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park.  From Homosassa Springs he moved to Tallahassee to serve as Volunteer Florida’s Chief of Staff and later the Director of Emergency Management and Volunteer Services.  After nine years he had the opportunity return to the Florida Park Service where three years later he retired as Program Administrator in the Director’s office.

Tom is currently the owner of TomStar Services that provides information technology and web-based services, volunteer management training, association and event management services, and maintenance services to individuals, small businesses and non-profit associations.

In 2016 and 2017, Tom and his wife Stacie spent 500 days traveling North America in a motorhome driving 40,000 miles and visiting 37 states and 9 provinces. It was a road trip of a lifetime and affirmed their love for America and its beautiful national and state parks. Aside from his love for travel, family is very important to Tom.  He married his high school sweetheart Stacie and they have two children and three grandchildren.

Tom is active with the Florida Park Service Alumni Association having served as President and Treasurer. He is excited to be part of the Florida State Parks Foundation and looks forward to using his experience to help preserve the natural beauty and resources of the Real Florida for generations to come.
